The chairman of the Waste Industry Alliance – an Ai Group managed association – Daniel Fyfe, said the recommendations recognised industry's concerns and mapped a way forward to resolve ambiguities and would help remove barriers to achieving the new waste management policy.
Fyfe said the recommendations would provide clarity for the role of Sustainability Victoria as well as Metropolitan and Regional Waste Management Groups.
"Both the MWMG and the RWMGs are important in facilitating greater investment in the recycling and resource recovery sector and the recommendations will better determine their roles," Fyfe said.
"The Waste Industry Alliance believes the recommendations will benefit investment in the area and provide improved certainty to industry," Fyfe said.
Fyfe also suggested that part of the new program could be to support community education in better understanding waste management.
