"The Association of Mining and Exploration Companies (AMEC) applauds the Premier of New South Wales, Barry O'Farrell, and Prime Minister Tony Abbott for recognising the importance of streamlining environmental approval processes," said Bernie Hogan, AMEC regional manager.
"AMEC has been a strong advocate for streamlining the approvals process through the delegation of federal assessment and approval powers under the EPBC Act to accredited States and Territories through the bi-lateral agreements process.
"This would remove the current significant duplications and additional layers of approval required by the EPBC Act, whilst also maintaining high environmental standards.
"Removing barriers for explorers and miners will increase confidence in New South Wales and help to attract investment in the mining and mineral exploration industry.
"AMEC is pleased with the progress that is being made in New South Wales and will continue to work with the Environment Ministers to implement the Coalition's 'one-stop shop' approach to environmental assessments and approvals in the other Australian States and Territories," said Hogan.
