Flow Meter & Totaliser Description

Find and buy flow meters from verified suppliers on IndustrySearch. A flow meter is an instrument used to measure linear, nonlinear, mass or volumetric flow rate of a liquid or a gas.

Things to consider when buying a flow meter:

  • Know your flow  - Know the Reynolds number for your application to match against the flow meters' reynolds range.
  • Go for the widest turndown - Select a flow meter that offers the widest possible turndown so it covers all expected flow variations.
  • Installing your flow meter - Joints, bends or valves close to the meter can distort flow, affecting the flow meter accuracy and repeatability. Placement should be within straight-lengths of unobstructed pipeline both upstream and downstream of the meter.
  • Match the flow meter type to your application. For example:
    • Liquid - Ideal types of flow meters: Variable Area, Variable Differential Pressure, Positive Displacement, Turbine, Electromagnetic, Ultrasonic, Thermal, Oscillatory, Coriolis
    • Gas - Ideal types of flow meters: Variable Area, Variable Differential Pressure, Positive Displacement, Turbine, Thermal, Oscillatory, Coriolis
    • Steam - Ideal types of flow meters: Variable Area, Variable Differential Pressure, Turbine, Oscillatory
    • Slurry - Ideal types of flow meters: Variable Differential Pressure (Wedge, eccentric, segmental, Venturi.), Electromagnetic, Ultrasonic, Coriolis
