A press brake is an industrial machine used in metal processing and manufacturing specifically designed to bend and form sheet metal and plates. Bends are created by lowering a punch onto a piece of metal that has been positioned on top of a die. Matching upper and lower dies are used to form predetermined shapes and angles at a high degree of accuracy. This process may be repeated several times until the desired form has been achieved.

Press brake machines have a large factory floor footprint and are typically long and narrow in orientation in order to accommodate a range of different shapes and sizes of sheet metal. Press machines improve efficiency in the metal processing and manufacturing fields by allowing operators to make consistent, high quality bends. This type of press is highly versatile in the metal manufacturing process and is commonly used across the following industries: automobile, energy, aerospace, marine, agriculture, transportation and military.

Press brakes drive sheet metal through dies with tremendous force that is measured in tonnage. The delivery of this force is done via one of the following application methods.

  • Hydraulic
  • Pneumatic
  • Electric
