HBM Plastics & Packaging Technologies -
Aluplast GmbH of Karlsrube, Germany are the world's largest manufacturer of PVC window systems. They currently operate more than 45 extruders in their production plants around the world.
Krauss Maffei Extrusion of Munich, Germany - are their preferred supplier of plastic extruders.
Aluplast were restricted in their floor-space and required extruders that were compact and could be flexibly installed, so they could be moved if necessary. Krauss Maffei worked closely with the company and developed a number of different solutions, including using a combination of two 90-32/P twin-screw extruders with a KMD 50 K/P as co-extruder. This particular configuration used only two 2.5m x 5.4m floor-space.
Krauss Maffei adopted space saving innovations including positioning the main switching cabinet for each unit at the end of the unit; small switching cabinets with the necessary control zones and operator panels take up space near the die, and the convertors for the water cooled AC motors were placed above the gearbox. The switching cabinet for the co-extruder is mounted on rollers and can be moved aside to allow access to the main motor. The two main extruders can be controlled together or separately by a defined master.
Aluplast's compact, double strand system for extruding core-technology window profiles achieves throughput of over 900 kilgrams per hour.
Krauss Maffei is a world market leader in plastic pipe and extrusion manufacturing systems.
Krauss Maffei is represented in Oceania by HBM Plastic Technologies.
